Earlier this year, I had an opportunity to share a wonderful client success story of Adam Bowles on Local Memphis Live: Memphis Speech Solutions
Adam worked very hard to meet his goal of learning a universal accent for TV. As you (hopefully) heard in the post training audio clip, Adam has virtually no detectable accent. BRAVO ADAM!!
Universal Accent for TV
What is a universal accent for TV? Very simply, it is the Standard American English Dialect. As stated in the PBS article, “It’s the unaccented variety of American English… that actors and professional communicators often take classes in “accent reduction” to lose any regional or social sounds in their speech. It takes a lot of work.”
Adam is a great example of a client who gained the ability to use code-switching. He is able to turn off the southern accent when necessary. This is a very important skill for those in acting and radio. If you follow videos of broadcasting at his former position with ABC 23 in Bakerfield, CA, you will notice he still retains features of his Southern American Regional Dialect.
Accent training is a such a cool part of speech coaching. I am very happy I was able to make a meaningful contribution to Adam’s career advancement.
Helping people improve their communication is a great passion of mine. I love what I do!!
